Little wonders at Christmas time – the gingerbread village of Geresdlak, Hungary

Geresdlak. A small village in Hungary, Baranya county. Though its population does not reach 1000, they maintain their settlement’s values with a huge amount of love, having some sights that are truly worth to see.

They have loads of cues in the village’s sights (Koffán house, steamed dumpling festival, German country house, doll exhibition) that hints the significant German population that lives along with the Hungarians. Further interesting fact, that even some Finnish families have bought homes in the settlement during the 2000’s.

There is a unique sight, that – with its kindness and holiday charm – has a special place in the people’s heart: The Gingerbread-village exhibition.

This local wonder is going to be held for the 13th time by the German Club Cultural Association of Geresdlak. The creators recreate the mockup of the village, with special attention to the smallest details.

Approximately 50 kgs of flour, 20 kgs sugar, 7 kgs honey, 100 egg, cinnamon, margarine, and cooking soda are needed in order to create these little pieces of art, to have all the important details: you can find all the houses, the church, the kindergarten, and even the football field!

The exhibition is open from the first Sunday of Advent up until the spring. We kindly suggest you to pay a visit. You can register on the following address:
