Here’s the Egg Of Hungary!
In Kecskemét lives and works Kati Zsigóné folk artist, who has been voted in Dubai into the five best egg decorators of the world. In Europe she is the number one. In Hungary the people know them as the “Queen Of Egg Decorators” and the “Bunny Of The Country”. She has written two books, one of them released in german language too.
Her motto is: “My art comes from the love of my roots, and today, it is strengthened by the love of my family and environment.”
In the beginning of 2018 Kati Zsigóné has reached the zenith of her artist carrier by presenting her wonderful piece of art, the Egg Of The Country.
The story of the creation has a strong bond with the history of our country, the Easter, and the celebration of our statehood. The creator has put 79 signs and symbols onto the ostrich egg, used 11 different ornamentation techniques, which is a unique record all over the world.
Kati said to our page, that very often her creation puts tears into the eyes of the viewers. On the egg you can find countless references to our national treasures: King Stephen I., the conquest of Hungary, the miracle herd, the turul bird, the crown jewels, Virgin Mary, Trianon, the Hövej and the Halas lace, the Kalocsa and matyó motives, and the grey cattle. All of them can be found on this wonderful piece of art. The pure gold golden horseshoes and the silver cogs are presented by the Rabotka Ékszer, the gigantic ostrich egg comes from an ostrich lives in Hajdúnánás.
With the Egg Of The Country, the artist gives a tribute to the Hungarian state founder, King St. Stephen, as this year is the 980th anniversary of his death.
For the Egg Of The Country, a 18 page guidebook has been made, of course with loads of interesting details. “As the creator and the owner, with the Egg Of The Country my main goal is to make it the property of Hungary, as a national treasure.” Said Kati. “I would like to have it displayed in appropriate circumstances, so more and more people can admire this boast of our country, this impayable treasure.”
I had a special feeling in my heart, that this is the time to create the Egg Of The Country. I wanted to show the fate of the Hungarian people, our history, to make an extra heartbeat in every Hungarian person, to make the whole world tell the story of Hungary. On the path of our ancestors, clear and understandably: with motives, signs, pictures.
I hope that it gives every person an unforgettable experience with its beauty, uniqueness, craftsmanship and expansiveness. With the words of Albert Wass: “Our last sacred heritage, which cannot be taken by anyone is the ancient secret of our folk art. This is a god given, fairy inspired, man dreamed heritage, whose only owner is the Hungarian, wherever it lives.”
