Have a free chill on the greatest Hungarian river’s beautiful beaches

The Danube is Hungary’s greatest river, the crown jewel of Budapest, one of Hungary’s prides. On these days there is a summer heatwave in Hungary, so we have to recall, where the tired wanderers can dive their exhausted bodies in the Danube’s refreshing water.

Many people think that swimming in the rivers is forbidden, but actually that is not true! There is many legal free beaches on the Danube’s Hungarian section and some of them are very close to Budapest. In the long lasting heat, when the lake’s (like Lake Balaton, Lake Velence) water getting too warm, the Danube’s water still remains cool, that is why it is a real refreshing experience to swim in the river. Here’s some of the free beaches are worth to look up. Have a great cooling off!

Szentendre – Postás strand

Near to Budapest, controlled water quality, designated bathing area, buffet, changing room, bathroom.

Dunabogdány

This was the first official free beach on the Danube, opened in 2009. Beautiful view, tidy environment, sports fields, buffets, changing rooms.

Nagymaros

The beach was opened in 2014. Sandy beach, two restaurants and a beautiful view awaits for the visitors.

Kisoroszi / Szigetcsúcs

With car you cannot go directly to the waterside, because it lies in a nature reserve, but it’s worth the trouble, because the landscape is beautiful. They have buffet, sanitary facilities and camping opportunity.
