New York Cafe’s history spans over 120 years; this imposing edifice has been a hub of culture, literature and the arts through every one of them. The greats of Hungarian literature received their inspiration and penned their works here. New York Palace, and the Cafe within it, are listed as prominent feats of achitectural achievement amongst the sights of the city. New York Cafe first opened its doors to the public in October 1894, which spawned the famous urban legend about its front door key: at the end of the opening ceremony, the key was thrown into the Danube, embodying the symbolic message that a splendid cultural hub of this caliber must stay open round the clock.

This gesture was ceremonially repeated at the building’s second inauguration in 2014, when it had assumed its present form, so that the message may spread loud and clear: the indomitable spirit of New York is immortal and will prevail for ever.

Wolf András head chef and his team are planning to surpass themselves with an array of heavenly poetry for the palate; the results will be served up to an accompaniment of live music: the vocalist Szőke Nikolett will be entertaining our guests.
