Pörkölt with Rice a’la Bácska Ingredients:

  • 600 gr of pork

  • 80 gr lard or shortening

  • 80 gr chopped onion

  • paprika, salt, garlic, caraway seeds (1/4 tsp)

  • 240 gr rice

  • lecsó – (300 gr green pepper, 200 gr tomatoes, 50 gr onions sautéed in shortening)

Pörkölt with Rice a’la Bácska

First step to create Pörkölt with Rice a’la Bácska cut pork into small cubes. Sauté the finely chopped onion to light yellow colour. Reduce the heat, add paprika, stir rapidly then add the chicken pieces with 1/2 cup of water, salt, garlic, caraway seeds and simmer slowly. Add more water occasionally if necessary, until pork becomes tender, almost ready. Then add the washed rice together with lecsó. Add 3 cup of broth and simmer covered until both rice and pork are tender.
